EPA Registers FMC's Anthem Herbicide

Preplant, preemergence and early postemergence herbicide for corn earns approval.

FMC Corporation has received Environmental Protection Agency registration on the Anthem herbicide, a preplant, preemergence and early postemergence herbicide for corn.

FMC says Anthem benefits include broad-spectrum weed control and resistance management along with a low-use rate and application flexibility.

"Anthem use rates are approximately four times less than most residual corn herbicides," says Tim Thompson, FMC product manager. He added that the low-use rate is designed to take less time for application.

Results from 2011 and 2012 Anthem test plots demonstrated safety for all types of corn. FMC says studies indicate that the product works for all tillage systems.

Bob Hooten, FMC Agricultural Products North America technical support manager, says the residual of Anthem could "set new standards for broad-spectrum, grass and broadleaf weed control in corn," and may improve yields.
