Meet Nebraska's New FFA Officer Team

Leaders chosen and awards presented at state convention in Lincoln.

Nebraska's newly elected state FFA officers are busy traveling the state spreading awareness of FFA and agricultural education.

At the 2014 Nebraska FFA convention in Lincoln, the following students were elected officers: Paige Dexter, president, Chambers FFA Chapter, Blair Hartman, state vice president, Imperial FFA Chapter; Colton Flower, state secretary, Scottsbluff FFA Chapter; Andrea Wach, state vice president, Hayes Center FFA Chapter; Amanda Lambrecht, state vice president, Blair FFA Chapter; Brandon Nichols, state vice president, Bridgeport FFA Chapter; and Ben Rice, state vice president, Norris FFA Chapter.

Also at the convention, the following awards were presented:

•The 2014 VIP Award was given to Donelle Wolters of Atwood, Kans. She spent 13 years as executive director of the Nebraska FFA before moving to Kansas last year after her marriage to a Kansas producer. Before her tenure as Nebraska FFA executive director, Wolters taught agricultural education at Blair.

•The 2014 Distinguished Service Award was presented to NTV, a central Nebraska TV network, for its service to agriculture, including its coverage of the Nebraska State Fair.

•The Gary Sharf Helping Hand Award was presented to Jeff Moore, retiring advisor of the Holdrege FFA.

•Nebraska FFA Advisors of the Year were Ken Malone of Palmyra and Kevin Wetovick of Fullerton.

•New Nebraska FFA Chapter Charters were Arcadia, Chadron and Sterling chapters.

•Nebraska Star in Agribusiness is Kayla Bouska of the Stuart FFA Chapter.

•Nebraska Star in Placement is Ben Rice of the Norris FFA Chapter.

•Nebraska Star in Agriscience is Brooke Pieke of the Newman Grove FFA Chapter.

•Nebraska Star in Production is Alyssa Hambleton of the Fullerton FFA Chapter.

Nebraska Farmer sponsors the Agricultural Communications Supervised Agricultural Experience proficiency contest at the state convention. Katie Nolles of the Rock County FFA chapter earned first-place in this category with her SAE that involves livestock photography to create ranch promotional materials. She promotes the ranch's Hereford operation through social media marketing.
