NC+ was started in 1958 as a production and marketing organization for farmers to work together as a group rather than individuals to merchandise and grow seed, says Doug Gloystein, operations manager. Today, NC+ serves corn, soybean, grain sorghum and alfalfa producers across the United States.
NC+'s original name was Nebraska Hybrid Seed Growers Association, with the seed sold under the brand name NC+ Hybrids. The company's name was later changed to NC+ Hybrids. Claire Porter, a research associate at the University of Nebraska, originally suggested that growers should form the organization to work together as a group, rather than individuals, in merchandising and growing seed. The company was officially registered and 56 growers were merchandising seed under the NC+ brand. Porter served as the company's first general manager.
NC+ is now a division of Channel Bio Corp. and has more than 100 employees and more than 1,500 sales representatives across the country.
"Our founders were visionary in how they approached the production and marketing of seed and we carry that same visionary spirit with us every day as we look to the future of seed genetics and technology," Gloystein says.
