Senate Votes to End Farm Bill Debate

Cloture vote successful late Thursday night.

The Senate voted 78-12 Thursday night to invoke cloture ending the debate on the 2007 Farm Bill, despite the fact that both parties had not used their allotment of 20 amendments.

"We still have a significant number of amendments and the time has come that we stop this," says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. "We need a farm bill, we need to get a conference and this is a bill that I believe after conversation with the Republican leader that we can go to conference on. But we do not have time for 26 more amendments."
