The Nebraska Beef Council has named Skeeter Barnes the 2007 "Nebraska Beef Backer Award" winner.
Several Nebraska restaurants competed in the Nebraska Beef Backer contest, after they first were nominated by a Nebraska beef producer or industry partner. The nominated restaurants then completed an official application which was evaluated by a committee and results were based upon beef promotion programs, beef menu applications and overall quality.
The judges top performing finalists for the 2007 Beef Backer Award were: Uncle Ed's Steakhouse in Grand Island; The Country Neighbor in Burwell; Skeeter Barnes in Kearney, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs; and Johnny's Italian Steakhouse in Omaha.
Skeeter Barnes was selected the winner and will now be moving on to represent Nebraska in the 2007 National Beef Backer Award contest.
Foodservice accounts for approximately half of the beef sold in this country, and commercial restaurants make up 61% for that sector, according to Ann Marie Bosshamer, executive director of the Nebraska Beef Council.
The Nebraska Beef Backer Award recognizes restaurants that promote beef and the beef industry through innovative menuing, promotions and the delicious beef entrees that draw consumers back time after time, Bosshamer says.
