USDA Awards Weed Grants

Funds will be used to fight invasive species.

Invasive weeds cause more than $100 billion in losses each year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing $4.6 million to 13 universities and research laboratories to develop ways to manage, control and eliminate invasive weeds.

The grants are from the National Research Initiative Biology of Weedy and Invasive Species in Agroecosystems grant program. Administered by the USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service, this program has provided more than $20 million in the past five years to fight weeds.
