The Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday that it would extend some compliance deadlines for concentrated animal feeding operations from July 31, 2007 to Feb. 27, 2009.
EPA announced two extensions relating to CAFOs. One extends the deadline for water pollution permit applications for facilities first defined as CAFOs by EPA in 2003. The other extension deals with when CAFOs with a Clean Water Act permit are required to implement their nutrient management programs.
EPA says on it Web site that the extensions "are necessary to allow EPA time to respond adequately to an array of public comments on issues raised by the Second Circuit’s decision before certain compliance dates take effect."
